General requirements for all certifiers
The general requirements set out the activities that all certifiers must undertake when carrying out assessments of fisheries and businesses that want to claim that the fish or fish products they sell are sustainable.
They specify:
- general requirements such as the requirements needed to be an accredited certifier
- structural requirements like confidentiality
- resource requirements such as certifier personnel
- process requirements like suspension or withdrawal of certificates
- the MSC vocabulary
Current version of the MSC certification requirements
The first version of the MSC certification requirements was released in August, 2011. There has been no alteration to the way assessments are carried out with the development of the new certification requirements.
The aim was to consolidate previous MSC scheme documents into a single clear, concise document that did not involve substantive modification of current requirements. This requirement is the intellectual property of the MSC and is periodically updated by the MSC Technical Advisory Board.
