Reviewing MSC standards and methodologies

How we review our standards

The MSC is committed to periodically reviewing our 2 standards in an inclusive and transparent manner, in line with best practice guidelines for ecolabelling and certification, including those set out by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and ISEAL.

The standards are maintained by the MSC Technical Advisory Board and are reviewed using the MSC Standard Setting Procedure, which was developed through stakeholder participation and peer review, and adopted in May 2007.

How we review our methodologies

The MSC methodologies implementing the MSC standards, including TAB (Technical Advisory Board) Directives and Policy Advisories are under continual review and development.

MSC methodologies
Revisions of the core MSC methodologies are undertaken from time to time to ensure the MSC program remains comprehensive and consistent with best practice.

Supporting documents
TAB Directives, Policy Advisories and guidance documents are developed between reviews of the core methodologies through policy setting processes that operate in a six monthly cycle tied to the MSC governance body meetings. Where necessary, MSC will hold public consultations on new and revised scheme requirements.
