Basque company Pescafria-Pesquera Rodríguez SA first Spanish fishery to obtain MSC certification for sustainable fishing

The Marine Stewardship Council[1] today announced that Pescafria-Pesquera Rodríguez has been awarded MSC sustainable fishing certification, making PESCAFRIA the first Spanish fishery and the first European Union Barents Sea cod fishery to be awarded this distinction.

MSC Statement Regarding Alaska Salmon

The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has been informed by the Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF), the organization that serves as the client for the Alaska salmon fishery, that it is withdrawing the fishery from assessment toward a possible third 5-year certification. The existing MSC certification runs until October 29, 2012 and any Alaska salmon caught prior to that date may be sold as MSC certified.
