Once your restaurant has an MSC Chain of Custody certificate there is one last step before you can use the MSC ecolabel in your restaurant. You need to apply for a license to use the ecolabel.

The MSC ecolabel is a registered trademark and cannot be used without an Ecolabel License.

When should we apply for an Ecolabel License?

•    Contact your local MSC office, or
•    Email ecolabel@msc.org

We will set up an agreement with you (a license) and send you copies of the ecolabel that you can use.

How can we use the MSC ecolabel in our restaurant?

You can use the MSC ecolabel on your menu or promotional literature  - for example, brochures, stands, letterhead, website.

MSC Ecolabel User Guide
There are some rules about exactly how the MSC ecolabel can be used to ensure that consumers can always recognise the distinctive blue ecolabel. We have an MSC Ecolabel User Guide, which helps you find the best way for your business to use the ecolabel, and sets out the rules about how to use it correctly.

The MSC Ecolabel User Guide is available from your local MSC office or please email ecolabel@msc.org.

Make the most out of the MSC ecolabel

Use the MSC ecolabel show your positive support of ethical leadership and raise your restaurant’s profile. Training waiters, chefs and serving staff to explain the MSC label will be one of the most important ways to tell customers that they can choose certified sustainable seafood in your restaurant. Promoting your new approach to sourcing seafood will also attract media interest and help build customer loyalty.

Show customers where your fish comes from
Display a case study about the fishery that supplies your restaurant. We have 42 fishery case studies in our 10th anniversary report.
