Glossary
Under-MSC-assessment fish
Whole fish or products that are, or are derived from, any aquatic organism harvested in a fishery, as defined in the Unit of Certification, under full assessment for MSC certification and on or after the ‘target eligibility date’ specified on the MSC website by the certifier responsible for the assessment.
Target Eligibility Date (TED)
The Target Eligibility Date is a date defined by the fishery certifier. Any fish caught on or after this date will be eligible to carry the label provided it meets the rules outlined. Please note: the TED is a guide date and may be subject to change as the fishery’s assessment progresses.
Actual Eligibility Date (AED)
The Actual Eligibility Date is the definite version of the Target Eligibility Date (TED). While the TED is subject to change, the AED is fixed. The fishery certifier defines the AED in the text of the Public Certification Report.
Preserve
The process designed to protect products from natural spoilage and to allow their long-term storage. These processes include but are not limited to freezing, canning, dehydrating, drying, curing, smoking, sterilising.
First link in the Chain of Custody
Designated the first company (and any subcontractors covered by its Chain of Custody certificate if granted) buying products directly from companies listed as part of the unit of certification of a fishery as described on the MSC website for that fishery. The fishery might be MSC certified or under full MSC assessment.
