Ecolabel rules for different user groups
When you have a licence from the MSC to use the ecolabel, you can add the MSC ecolabel to your artwork. If you haven't already got an MSC ecolabel licence, apply now.
MSC Ecolabel User Guide
This guide sets out the basic rules governing use of the ecolabel and explains how different users can employ it for maximum impact. Additional rules for each user group can be found below.

Retailers
Shops and stores that sell MSC labelled products to consumers, including online retailers and fish mongers.

Supply chain companies
Processors, distributors, foodservice suppliers and wholesalers that sell MSC certified seafood in bulk or in consumer-ready packaging. Please consult the Ecolabel User Guide for basic rules on how to use the MSC ecolabel on packaging and the Additional rules for supply chain companies (PDF, 279kb) which includes guidance on using the MSC ecolabel on multipacks and products containing under 5% non certified seafood.

Foodservice
Businesses that sell and serve seafood that is ‘ready to eat’, and where it can be consumed immediately, either on the premises or as a take-away.

Non-commercial organisations
Non-commercial use of the MSC ecolabel includes use by non-profit organisations, educational organisations, authors, fishery marketing bodies and accredited certifiers. Please contact the MSC for more guidance - ecolabel@msc.org
