Ecolabels make a difference

If you want to support responsible, sustainable production, ecolabels give you the power to do so...

What are ecolabels?

Ecolabels give you information about how a product has been produced. E.g. that it’s:
•     sustainable
•     fair
•     environmentally responsible

You find them on everything from sustainable fish to fairly traded coffee and bananas

MSC ecolabel This is the MSC ecolabel for sustainable fish and seafood.

What are ecolabels for?

Ecolabels give you confidence that a product is sustainable, fair or responsible. You can buy products that meet the standards you care about, and support the companies meet these standards.

Is the MSC ecolabel trustworthy?

At the MSC, we meet and often exceed the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization guidelines for ecolabelling. Our certification:
•     is carried out by an independent third-party
•     is thorough, transparent and open
•     include consultations with all stakeholders
•     gives people the chance to object to a certification

Our certification and ecolabelling program has been checked by ISEAL, a global association for best practice in social and environmental standards. Find out more about our credibility.

What other ecolabels are there?

The following organisations are also ISEAL members and run reliable, trustworthy certification programmes:

•     Fairtrade Labelling Organisation
•     Forest Stewardship Council
•     International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements
•     Marine Aquarium Council

•     Rainforest Alliance
•     Social Accountability International
