Fishery: North Sea and Skagerrak/Kattegat Herring Fisheries (Clupea harengus) and Western Baltic Sprats Fishery (Sprattus balticus)
Status: The certification body, Moody Marine Ltd, has announced that the North Sea and Skagerrak/Kattegat Herring and Western Baltic Sprats Fisheries have entered full assessment. Initially Moody Marine seeks to open a dialogue with all organisations or individuals with a direct interest in the fisheries.
Anyone wishing to provide comments or information to the assessment process (relevant to the status of the stock, ecosystem interactions or fishery management practices) is invited to contact Sandhya Chaudhury.
As other fisheries on the North Sea autumn spawning stock are already subject to MSC certification, or are under assessment at present, the outcomes of these other assessments will be considered, with harmonisation between assessments occurring wherever necessary.
Moody Marine are also in the process of assembling an assessment team of individuals with experience of stock assessment, ecosystem interactions and fishery management appropriate to these fisheries. Any nominations of suitable individuals are welcomed.
