Your choice of seafood is more than just a drop in the ocean. Make the sustainable choice when out shopping for heart-healthy seafood.

This Heart Awareness Month (September) and National Marine Month (October), we're asking everyone to commit to making the sustainable choice when shopping for seafood. Switching to MSC certified sustainable seafood will have a huge impact on our oceans.

With campaign Feel-Good Seafood, the Marine Stewardship Council in partnership with Irvin & Johnson (I&J) and with the support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa (HSFSA), are encouraging South Africans to choose seafood that's good for you and the ocean too.

Seafood you can feel good about

Our oceans feed billions of people and provide 80 percent of the world’s biodiversity. Looking after the oceans and the resources they provide is more important now than ever before.

The MSC blue label indicates that the product has been independently verified for its sustainability, protecting our ocean for the future. By choosing the MSC blue fish label, you make the positive choice to support well-managed, sustainable fisheries that help keep our oceans healthy – so future generations can enjoy the same seafood we love.

Seafood is good for you

Seafood is a high-protein option that provides good nutrients, vitamins, and essential omega-3 fatty acids which are beneficial for your heart and overall health. A good rule of thumb is to eat fish at least twice a week, such as mackerel, hake, tuna, and salmon.

The HSFSA's Heart Mark logo – often seen next to the MSC blue fish label on your favourite seafood products – guides consumers in making the healthier choice.
