Marine Stewardship Council welcomes new Trustee

The Trustees of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) welcome the appointment of Gregory S. Stone, Ph.D.to the MSC Board.
About Dr Stone
Gregory Stone is Senior Vice President for Marine Conservation and Chief Scientist for Oceans with Conservation International. For the past 25 years, his career has integrated marine science, conservation, policy and communications.
Between 1993 and 2009 Dr Stone worked at the New England Aquarium where he headed the use of market-based methods to finance conservation.
In 1993 Dr Stone was appointed by the US President as a US commissioner to the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), a 23-member-country organisation charged with determining all legal quotas of North Atlantic tuna and other large open-ocean fish.
Since 2000, Dr Stone has led the effort to create the world's largest marine protected area around the Phoenix Islands in the country of Kiribati and was named one of the National Geographic Society's Heroes of 2007 for this accomplishment. His pioneering research on marine mammals in the Antarctic, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and his marine policy work are detailed in his 60+ publications, in journals such as Nature, Marine Mammal Science and Biological Conservation
