Current Status
The certification body Moody Marine Ltd., has announced an extension to the existing certificate of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands pollock fishery. Due to unavoidable delays in the latter report preparation stages, the re-assessment cannot be completed within the timeframe of the current certification. Following discussions with the MSC the existing certificate is extended up to the end of June 2010. This variation to the MSC Fisheries Certification Methodology has been issued conditionally upon the following facts that Moody Marine have confirmed to be accurate:
• The fishery has made the improvements required by the conditions set in the current certification,
• The fishery continues to be compliant with the MSC standard,
• The current draft report for the fishery recommends continued certification,
• The fishery will continue to comply with the existing certificate until the reassessment process is complete.
Anyone seeking further information should contact Paul Knapman at Moody Marine.
