Fisheries exiting the MSC program
Fisheries assessed by independent certifiers against the MSC standard for sustainable fishing can exit the MSC program in 2 ways:
- complete assessment but aren't certified
- withdraw from the program.

Fisheries that did not achieve certification can re-enter assessment within 2 years as set out in TAB Directive 24 (PDF, 60kb). If a fishery re-enters after 2 years, they must undergo a new assessment.

Fisheries can voluntarily withdraw from the program at any stage. In addition, fisheries may be required to withdraw if they have not progressed through the assessment as stated in their assessment timeline and cannot meet requirements for a variation, as set out in TAB Directive 28 (PDF, 60kb).
