You are here: Home Track a fishery Fisheries in the MSC program Fisheries in assessment

These fisheries pages are the definitive source of fisheries information, and contain the most up-to-date information about assessments. We are currently testing a new fishery search tool and are seeking your feedback during the development process. Before switching to the new search please note that assessment documents may be missing for some fisheries during this beta phase.

Fisheries in assessment

Fisheries around the world are demonstrating that they are sustainable by meeting the MSC environmental standard for sustainable fishing and getting certified. Use the links on the left to find out more about fisheries that are currently being assessed against the standard.

There are currently 103 fisheries undergoing assessment in the MSC program.

Assessments are carried out by independent certifiers, not by the MSC. At key stages in the assessment process for each fishery the certifier invites public comment. If you would like to contribute to the assessment of any of these fisheries please contact the relevant certifier. Your input helps to ensure well-informed, robust assessments.

The list of fisheries in assessment currently displays all active assessments. Fisheries undergoing pre-assessments or others which may have dropped out of the MSC program will not be listed on the follow pages of the MSC website.

To be kept informed about the progress of all fisheries through the assessment by regular emails please sign up for fisheries updates.

Certifier performance

All fishery certifiers are required to have their own complaints procedure. You should be able to find this on their website – listed with their contact details. If you need to raise a complaint with your certifier, please use their complaints procedure as a first step.

If you are not satisfied with your certifier’s response, it is possible to raise a complaint with MSC’s independent accreditation body – Accreditation Services International (ASI). ASI’s website, www.accreditation-services.com, includes full details of the ASI complaints procedure.
