EU Outreach Manager

The Marine Stewardship Council is seeking an enthusiastic individual experienced with the EU policy framework and the European Commission’s Farm to Fork Strategy. Reporting directly to the Regional Director for North Europe, this post will give the right candidate an excellent opportunity to deliver an ambitious EU Strategy that helps inform and align EU policy initiatives to the Marine Stewardship Council’s rigorous standard for seafood sustainability. 

Key responsibilities of this role include:

• Management of MSC’s EU work portfolio including strategy development, project management and evaluation of progress against timebound deliverables.
• Ensure relevant MSC staff are kept up to date on key EU dossiers including the Marketing Standards, Substantiating Green Claims, and associated Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) / Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies.
• Carry out outreach activities with EU institutions and other relevant stakeholders such as the fishing industry, commercial supply chain, NGOs and academics.

To be successful in this role, you will be a highly motivated individual with professional and practical experience in EU policy processes, fisheries management, and/or third-party certification schemes including the MSC program. You will be a self-starter with excellent project planning, organisation and time management skills.

Through our internationally-recognised certification and ecolabeling programme well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded in the market place, through the leadership of our partners.  Critically, other fisheries are incentivised to improve their performance to meet the growing demand for certified sustainable and traceable seafood choice. Over 400 fisheries around the world, representing 17% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC programme and over 1200 documented improvements to the way our oceans are being fished have been recorded. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.
