Regional Director, Americas

The MSC is seeking a dynamic and engaging individual for the role of Regional Director, Americas.

We want future generations to be able to enjoy seafood and oceans full of life, forever.
As the most globally recognised standard for sustainable fishing, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) provides a platform to incentivise real change in the way our oceans are fished.

The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations. We provide a unique opportunity to influence both fisheries and the market by driving consumer demand for sustainable seafood. Through our world-renowned certification and ecolabeling program, well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded in the marketplace. Critically, other fisheries are incentivised to improve their performance to meet the growing demand for certified sustainable and traceable seafood choice. Over 400 fisheries around the world, representing 17% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC program and over 1200 documented improvements to the way our oceans are being fished have been recorded. MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.

We are now seeking a dynamic and engaging individual as our Regional Director, Americas to further our work. This role is one of enormous breadth, combining responsibility for the delivery of MSC’s Strategic Plan objectives and targets in the region whilst leading globally as a member of the MSC’s Senior Program Management Team (SPMT), and being a visionary yet practical leader, representative and partnership builder.

Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, this critical role will:

  • Lead our Americas team (USA, Canada and Latin America)
  • Build greater awareness, support, and engagement throughout the region
  • Strengthen key stakeholder relationships across the seafood value chain and amongst NGOs
  • Enhance the value proposition for participants in the program; and,
  • Represent the MSC externally as a spokesperson.

In this role, we are seeking an experienced leader and manager who is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities while delivering excellent results.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive knowledge of either the American seafood and fishing industries, sustainable seafood movements and/or NGO sector. You will be a confident ambassador for the MSC and be able to demonstrate to others your empathy and interest in the MSC’s mission and objectives. Applicants must have excellent written and spoken English; fluency in Spanish (preferred) or French would be considered an advantage
