Accessibility tools

We provide tools to support fisheries that want to make improvements towards sustainability and MSC certification. The tools outlined on this page are used by consultants, Fishery Improvement Project (FIP) providers and other stakeholders to plan and track improvements.

Ashtamudi clam fisherPre-assessment Reporting Template

Description: A MSC pre-assessment provides an initial determination of how a fishery will perform against the MSC standard. This allows for areas needing improvement to be outlined.

Action Plan Template GuidanceFishery Improvement Action Plan Tool

Description: Once gaps have been identified in pre-assessment, an action plan detailing the process of improvement and how to address issues can be developed. The action plan template can be used to plan actions with the milestones, timeframes, resources, responsibilities and budgets needed to move a fishery towards sustainability.

Partnering for Sustainable FisheriesPartnering for sustainable fisheries tool

Description: FIPs rely on collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders who are willing to support the fishery on its journey of improvement. This tool outlines why and how to work in partnership. It also provides guidance on partnership structure and possible benefits, and the roles and responsibilities for different partners supporting fisheries as they improve towards MSC certification.

Description: A comprehensive toolkit designed for stakeholders engaged with fisheries making improvements towards sustainability and achieving MSC certification. It provides stakeholders currently working with pre-MSC fisheries an in-depth understanding of the MSC requirements, thereby enabling them to implement successful FIPs. It also provides an opportunity to increase technical consultants and assessors capacity in developing countries

BMT v2 coverBenchmarking and Tracking Tool ( BMT)

Description: Once the pre-assessment is undertaken and an action plan is developed, a fishery can be benchmarked and reported on using the BMT. The BMT can also be used to track actual against expected progress as the fishery’s performance improves and moves towards MSC certification.
