Amy’s Choice has become the first MSC certified independent restaurant in China. The restaurant will provide Chinese consumers with the chance to try cod with the blue MSC label, that can be traced back to a sustainable fishery.

“As a research and development center, restaurant Amy’s Choice will create new sustainable cod dishes based on the consumer’s preferences.” said Mr. Meng Xinghua, the general manager of Amy’s Choice.” We have witnessed a growing demand for sustainable consumption, which is one of the key drivers for Amy’s Choice to apply for an MSC Chain of Custody certificate, aiming to ensure our consumers’ confidence in where the seafood comes from.”

Paul Uys, a Trustee on the board of the MSC and retired executive from Canada’s biggest supermarket chain - Loblaws: “MSC has helped to create a more sustainable seafood market over the last 20 years. In additional to global retailers’ commitments to sustainable seafood, hotels and restaurant have started to introduce sustainability programs which are shifting the whole seafood industry towards better practices.”

“China has become a vital market for MSC strategic development. In the last 5 years, MSC received tremendous support from Chinese stakeholders, including major retailers, hotels and industry mobilised by two key industry associations: CAPPMA and CCFA,” said An Yan, MSC China Country Director. “Amy’s Choice, as the first certified restaurant in China, will encourage more Chinese industry and food services to introduce sustainable seafood programs.”
