Strategic plan 2006-2011

The MSC has a vital role to play in safeguarding seafood resources through our certification and ecolabelling program for sustainable seafood. As a relatively small organisation with a huge task, our Integrated Strategic Plan provides essential direction to help our team make the greatest improvements to marine environments around the world.

The MSC Integrated Strategic Plan outlines the priorities for the work we will do in key markets, in Europe the USA and in the Asia Pacific region especially in Japan, and sets out the resources we need to achieve our aims:

  • Increase demand for MSC labelled seafood from retailers, restaurants, seafood processors and consumers. This encourages more fisheries to engage in our programme for sustainable fisheries.
  • Increase the number of fisheries that achieve MSC certification, increasing the supply of certified sustainable seafood into the marketplace so increasing the positive impact that our program has on maintaining the biodiversity of the oceans.
  • Continue to improve our own effectiveness, ensuring we are a credible, sustainable organisation.

You can help us to achieve these goals and safeguard our oceans’ seafood if you get involved:

  • Get certified! If you represent a fishery or are part of the seafood supply chain
  • Look for the blue MSC label when shopping or dining out.
  • Help us raise awareness with consumers to increase understanding and knowledge about the MSC.
  • Support the MSC with a donation to help us continue our vital work.
