Sustainable tuna insights: why sourcing matters, how overfishing impacts oceans, and how the MSC helps consumers choose tuna with a clear conscience.

Sustainable tuna success as global demand soars

Sales of certified labelled MSC sustainable tuna globally has grown to approximately 300,000 metric tonnes in 2024/25.

This rapid increase in sales of MSC labelled sustainable tuna is the result of transformations within the fishing sector. 54% of global tuna catch is now certified to the MSC’s Standard for sustainable fishing, compared with 14% in 2014.

These changes have been driven by increasing retailer and consumer demand. Consumers in the 'Oceania Region now have access to a diverse portfolio of brands with the MSC blue fish tick including Coles, East Coast Tuna Company, John West, Little Tuna, Pam’s, SAFCOL, The Stock Merchant Provisions and Walker’s Tuna.
