What does "sustainable" mean?
At its core, sustainable means “able to be maintained at a certain rate or level.” When applied to fishing, this means that fishing ought to be able to continue indefinitely without depleting the target population.A detailed definition of "sustainable"
The definition of sustainable in the MSC program means leaving enough fish in the ocean to replenish the targeted population; fishing in a way that respects other species and marine habitats; and managing the fishery in a way that can adapt to changing environmental circumstances and ensure people who depend on fishing can maintain their livelihoods.
