Brian Perkins, MSC regional director for the Americas, will be leaving the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) at the end of February after six years at the global standard setter for sustainable fishing.
Brian joined the MSC in 2015 to lead operations in the Americas and support MSC’s market-based sustainability program. Brian has managed a team of more than twenty people at the MSC spanning from Newfoundland in Canada to Tierra del Fuego in Argentina.
Brian leaves the MSC with a legacy of leadership in the Americas.
This includes strengthening MSC’s presence and reputation in the Americas, building a dedicated team of sustainable seafood advocates, and launching a North American program designed to increase MSC ecolabel use and support marketing efforts, among other achievements.
Nicolas Guichoux, MSC’s chief program officer and Brian’s line manager, said: “It has been a privilege for me to share this journey with Brian to build the best Americas Team we've ever had. Brian has embraced our Vision and Mission over the years so I am sure he will take this with him in his new job. I am very much looking forward to discussing how we can effectively collaborate to make our planet a better place.”
Brian has spent the majority of his work life involved in the commercial fishing and seafood industry. His career to date includes working as a commercial fisherman, launching seafood expositions such as the European Seafood Exposition, Seafood Processing Europe, Singapore Seafood Exposition and others, selling advertising for seafood trade publications, and more.
Brian will be taking the role of Chief Operating Officer at the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) in March 2021. Brian’s strong leadership and partnership skills will undoubtedly serve him well in his new role at GAA and within the seafood industry. The team at MSC wish him all the best in his new role.
