What is the MSC blue fish label?
We make choices every day and rely on simple signals to help us decide. At the grocery store or on a menu, choosing seafood is no different. When you don’t have time to think twice, the MSC blue fish label is a quick signal that tells you everything you need to know.
The MSC blue fish label is a visual signal that can tell you a lot about what you’re buying. No extra effort, no second-guessing, just a simple and easy way to know you’re good. It means it comes from a wild fishery that has gone through third-party assessments, audits, and achieved MSC certification. Plus, every purchase you make helps support environmentally sustainable fisheries around the world.
When you see the label, you know you’re good because you know you're choosing something that’s wild caught and sourced from an MSC certified fishery.

But what else can the MSC blue fish label tell you? Let’s dive into the anatomy of the MSC blue fish label.
What are the parts of the ecolabel?

MSC
This one is easy. It stands for Marine Stewardship Council. We're an international non-profit organization with the mission to use our ecolabel and fishery certification program to contribute to the health of the world’s oceans by recognizing and rewarding sustainable fishing practices, influencing the choices people make when buying seafood and working with our partners to transform the seafood market to a sustainable basis.
The fish checkmark
The ecolabel can be easily recognized by the fish checkmark. This checkmark will only be applied to wild fish or seafood from fisheries that have been certified to the MSC Fisheries Standard, a set of requirements for environmentally sustainable fishing.
MSC-C-XXXXX
This is the company’s Chain of Custody code. It is what proves that this product is part of an unbroken chain back through the supply chain. This means that the seafood from a certified fishery moves to your plate is easily identifiable, separated from non-certified products, and can be traced back to another certified business.
www.msc.org
Another easy one, this is the MSC website.
TM
The TM shows that the MSC ecolabel is a registered trademark, which means that companies can’t use the ecolabel without permission.
