Norway State of the Water Report 2026

The North Atlantic team is pleased to present the State of the Water Norway report, highlighting the progress, achievements and ongoing challenges of Norwegian fisheries within the MSC program. As one of the MSC’s longest-standing and most significant regions for certified sustainable fisheries, Norway provides valuable insight into how fisheries can respond to evolving pressures on marine ecosystems while strengthening the sustainability of fishing practices and management systems. This report brings together nearly two decades of certification data, audit findings and documented improvements to demonstrate the contribution of Norwegian fisheries to sustainable seafood production and to illustrate how certification can support continual improvement in fisheries management. By bringing this progress into focus, the report aims to provide a clear picture of where Norwegian fisheries stand today, the changes that have taken place since the first certifications in 2008, and the opportunities that lie ahead for the sector.
