One of the most frequently asked questions is, which fish is "the most" sustainable? 

The answer is a little more complicated than naming one type of fish. Environmental sustainability depends on where a fish comes from, how it was caught, and how that fishery is managed.

That’s why the MSC doesn’t certify an entire species as sustainable. Instead, individual fisheries choose to be assessed against the MSC’s science-based standard for environmentally sustainable fishing. Independent experts look at things like the health of the fish population, the fishery’s impact on the wider ocean, and how effectively it is managed.

So, for example, one haddock fishery might be MSC certified while haddock caught somewhere else, or using a different fishing method, might not be. Some MSC certified fisheries focus on a single species, while others catch several species under the same certification.
