Summary of reports

Our second edition of the MSC UK and Ireland Market Report showcases the continued leadership of the UK and Irish markets in supplying sustainable seafood to customers that want to buy it. It highlights a growing range of certified products available and profiles emerging sectors in the sustainable seafood space.

Last year, UK and Irish consumers spent an estimated £1.26 billion on MSC fish and seafood and could choose from 45 different certified species across 1,560 products.

Our first edition of the MSC UK Tuna Shopper Report offers a deeper dive into one of the most widely eaten fish species in the UK. It presents insights into what shoppers care about when it comes to buying and eating tuna, and, for the environmentally conscious, what sustainably sourced options are available in our supermarkets.

The UK market has, and continues to be, a world leader in supporting certified sustainable fisheries. The availability of tuna species, variety of catch methods and formats are now in a positive place when it comes to certified supply. UK brands and retailers now have an opportunity to provide tuna shoppers with what they are looking for and match the availability of certified sustainable wild options seen across the other big five seafood species, as shown in the Market Report.
