Pret launches sustainable salmon sandwich

The UK’s first MSC eco-labelled certified sustainable salmon sandwich goes on sale today at Pret A Manger. The Really Wild Salmon sandwich is made with smoke roast Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-labelled salmon from the certified sustainable Alaskan salmon fishery. The certified Alaskan salmon fishery is one of the largest in the world covering thousands of square miles of the Pacific Ocean and the salmon (when raw) is a vivid pink colour.

What Pret A Manger says

Nicki Fisher, Sustainability Manager for Pret A Manger, says: “We’re very proud to be launching this delicious sandwich with MSC approved salmon; good for taste, good for fishermen and good for us all!”

What the MSC says

Rupert Howes, Chief Executive of the MSC says: “I’m delighted that Pret has decided to launch this sandwich and particularly pleased that Pret customers will be able to find the MSC eco-label on the shelves. More and more consumers are asking for the MSC’s independently assessed eco-label on their seafood and this proof of the Really Wild Salmon sandwich’s sustainability will provide the reassurance they are looking for. I will certainly be eating one for my lunch today!”

About Pret a Manger

Pret opened in London in 1986. College friends, Sinclair and Julian, made proper sandwiches using natural, preservative-free ingredients. They created the sort of food they craved but couldn’t find anywhere else. There are about 150 Pret shops and most of them are in the UK. For more information, please visit: www.pret.com
