Who we are

We are the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and we bring you online teaching and learning resources to help you discover how you can help keep our oceans healthy for generations to come. Our formal education pages are aimed at parents and teachers with teaching resources.

What’s this about?

A new law is being made that keeps personal information about you safe. This could be things like your name or a photo of you, it could even be things like your personal email address or your social media username. It’s our job to tell you about any personal data we collection about you, and how we record and use that information.

Our online teaching and learning resources area

We have created many informative, educational, and fun materials for preschool and secondary school students looking for educational resources for school projects or just looking for fun activities related to the environment. These activities include for example creative activities like designing a sea creature or making tasty seafood recipes, and games and puzzle activities.

What information do we collect?

Whilst no personal data is intentionally processed by the MSC, some data will be collected by website cookies. Cookies are text files that transfer onto your device when you use a service. They contain small pieces of data — like a username and password — that are used to identify your computer.

We use cookies and tracking to get information about what type of device you’re using to access our services and we record things like what sites you visit, your IP address (a unique number your device creates every time you connect to the internet) and to make things easier for you, like remembering information about you, so you don’t have to give it to us again (and again, and again), and keeping you signed in, even on different devices.

Some of our games and puzzle activities are hosted by a different site called Kahoot. Kahoot might also collect cookies. You can turn them off, but not through us. To turn off Kahoot cookies, you need to do this directly with Kahoot.

Can we use your personal data for anything?

No. Even though the MSC has some data collected by website cookies, this doesn’t mean we can do what we want with it, we have to follow some rules. Sometimes we have to ask you if we can use it, and if you say no then we can’t.

We would never share your personal data with anyone else.

How long will we keep your information?

There are different types of cookies. Some cookies are erased when you close the browser on your website or app. Others stay longer, sometimes forever, and are saved onto your device so that they’re there when you come back.
