Over 200 employees of leading seafood distributor, Foodservice Asia Pacific Middle East (FSAPME) attended a 3-hour session on the organisation’s vision and mission for sourcing sustainable seafood to keep our oceans thriving into the future.

Attempting to inspire the heart of the organisation’s human capital, FSAPME communicated the importance of each and everyone’s instrumental role in this journey towards sourcing sustainable seafood, and what this really means.

MSC Regional Director, Patrick Caleo, spoke about the MSC program, certified fisheries’ impact on the water, and developments around the world from supply chain companies that are making substantial commitments towards sustainable seafood, and their use of the MSC ecolabel to cultivate consumer trust and assurance.

GlobeScan, an independent, global research firm shared how consumers around the world and specifically in the Asia Pacific region are eager to play a part in ensuring they make the right choices when buying seafood. According to research, consumers are even willing to vote with their wallets and pay more if they are confident that sustainability claims on products are verified by independent and science-based programs like the MSC.

Team members also heard directly from a certified sustainable fishery. Albrohos Octopus was MSC certified in 2019 and the company shared its sustainability journey and experience with innovation in fisheries management.

Foppen, a company from the Netherlands with a rich hundred-year history that provides high quality seafood to FS APME, shared their track record and credentials, telling how they mix traditional craftsmanship with the latest state-of-the-art technology.

Helene Raudaschl, Director of Foodservice APME says everyone is responsible for making a better planet. She reminded everyone that businesses have accountability for the environment and that FSAPME's aspiration will always be to enhance the quality of life for people around the world by adopting world class innovation and committing to sustainability.
