Since our last newsletter in May, three fisheries were certified and one entered full assessment in the Americas region.
- The FBSA Canada Full Bay sea scallop fishery received MSC certification. This fishery has been in operation since the late 19th century and the client is the Full Bay Scallop Association (FBSA).
- The Îles-de-la-Madeleine lobster trap fishery was also certified. The fishery is located in Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 22 surrounding the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence off the east coast of Canada.
- The Russian Sea of Okhotsk walleye pollock fishery was certified this month. The target stock is found throughout the northern part of the Sea of Okhotsk and commercial fishing occurs during two seasons: January to April, and October to December.
- The Lake Erie multi-species commercial fishery in Canada entered MSC assessment. If certified, this fishery will provide a significant volume of lake fish to markets in North America and globally. The fishery client is Ontario Commercial Fisheries’ Association (OCFA).
On the Alaska salmon assessment, the Public Comment Draft Report (PCDR) period has closed and the certifier is working on a Final Report. Please contact a member of the Americas team if you have questions.
