Are you a student with a research project in either sustainable fishing practice or transforming the seafood market? This is your chance to be part of the 2017 MSC science scholarship program.
We invite both undergraduate and postgraduate students from around the world to apply for the grant, which provides up to £4,000 towards the costs of your research project.
Applications are open from 1 February, 2017 to 5pm GMT on Monday 03 April 2017
What we're looking for
To be considered, your project needs to involve either:
- Some aspect of environmental improvement, improved fishery management or fishery best practice, or
- Seafood product traceability and supply chain management.
Last year’s scholarship winners are investigating Mexican cooperatives combating illegal fishing, seaweed farming in Indonesia and monitoring tuna populations with genetic sequencing.
Direct links to an MSC certified fishery (or one trying to become certified) are not required, although this is an additional point of interest for the MSC.
Now in its seventh round, the MSC science scholarship program works towards promotion of sustainable fishing and seafood market transformation by supporting the study of problems and best practice solutions.
The scholarship covers the costs of your travel, accommodation and the hire or purchase of essential equipment.
How to apply
Submit an application form, which asks for a project summary, and a statement from your supervisor, by Monday 03 April, 2017.
