True facts: Sustainable Seafood Week Germany

Launched on 4 November, MSC Germany’s sustainable seafood week campaign for 2013 is called “In black and white – True facts from the world of sustainable fishing”. From 4 to 8 November 2013, 500 MSC-certified foodservice sites throughout Germany is raising awareness of their MSC-labelled seafood products and telling diners what the blue ecolabel stands for.

Save the oceans during lunch break

Currently 8 per cent of the global seafood catch comes from MSC-certified sustainable fisheries. People can tell whether their seafood lunch comes from one of these fisheries by looking for the blue MSC ecolabel – the world’s best-known label for sustainable seafood. The number of locations taking part in this year’s campaign week is five times higher than last year. These are canteens, caterers and student unions that are certified to the MSC chain of custody standard for seafood traceability and they will be showing their customers that eco-friendly fish consumption can be very easy and it is possible to help protect our oceans during a lunch break.

“We all want oceans that are teeming with life, and a sustainable fishing industry, so we are working with partners to transform fishing to a more sustainable basis,” says Marnie Bammert, Deputy Director Europe of MSC, emphasising the relevance of the campaign week. “The MSC-certified canteens, caterers and student unions support us in this mission and ensure that the sustainably sourced seafood arrives at its proper destination: the consumer.”

The first issue of the MSC-zine

The centrepiece of the campaign is the MSC-zine, an 8-page alternative newspaper with scientific and entertaining articles on sustainable fishing and all that it involves. In addition, a series of posters with »Headlines we would love to see«, table cards with »News from the galley« and fortune cookies with wise fishermen’s sayings will remind diners of the campaign slogan and point them towards the informative and entertaining MSC-zine.
